Oscar Ike

By Sherman Lau

Oscar grew up locally in Stamford, Connecticut, and started competitively swimming at just 6 years old for the Long Ridge summer club!  Oscar became an instructor at Sweet Blue in September of 2019 because he remembered how terrifying his first swimming lesson was as a kid – he didn’t even make it in the water for his first class because he was so scared. Eventually, the water became Oscar’s second home, and he feels it’s his responsibility to give back what he has learned during his years of swimming to the younger generations. Oscar believes it is extremely important that kids grow up with love and respect for the water rather than fear!

Among his many achievements, Oscar was the 2015 Connecticut State Senior Open Championships high point winner, competed as part of the Wilton YMCA Wahoos 2015 long course YMCA national championship team, a 2016 U.S. Open Championship qualifier (400meter IM), and was recruited to swim on the NCAA Division I level at Virginia Tech where he competed in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

In August of 2020, Oscar became a full-time member of the Sweet Blue team as the Director of Training and Recruiting.
